Community Payback Raises Money for Victims of Crime

Offenders carrying out Community Payback have raised £800 for a charity dedicated to helping victims of crime.

The cash has been raised at a car wash that runs every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year at the Stretford probation office.
The car wash, which is a regular fixture for many motorists, is staffed by offenders who are supervised by Greater Manchester Probation Trust, and the money raised each quarter is donated to Victim Support and Witness Service Trafford.
Amanda Scott, Community Payback Supervisor, said: “We have lots of regulars who enjoy coming to the car wash, which has been running for more than 20 years.
“It’s only right the money we raise should be donated to Victim Support. The offenders work hard to make amends and the fact victims benefit is fitting.”
The cheque was presented to Angela Stewart, Victim Support’s district manager, at her office in Sale Town Hall, Tatton Road.
Angela said: “It’s fantastic to receive support from the probation service. We depend upon donations and it initially costs £300 to train a volunteer and another £300 for further training, so this money will go along way to meeting that cost.
“It’s come at a very good time because charities are strapped for cash at the moment.”
The car wash runs from 9.30am to 3.30pm at the Stretford Probation Office, Newton Street, Stretford, and costs £2 and £3 for a wash and hoover. Motorists can enjoy a cup of tea, and can get cars waxed and polished by appointment. During the summer a valet service can also be had.
