Rubbish Clearance Impresses the Public
22 Mar 2010
OFFENDERS have cleared a popular park of rubbish, just days after being asked to do the job by a member of the public.
Manchester’s Community Payback team received a request to litter pick in Highfield Park and the Fallowfield Loop, in Manchester.
A member of the public heard about Community Payback via a recent national campaign called Justice Seen, Justice Done. The campaign is aimed at raising the profile of community sentencing and getting the public more involved.
A total of 13 offenders worked for a day and a half to clear rubbish, tins, tyres and crisp packets from the area.
Diane Sefton, Community Payback Officer, supervised the work and was delighted to respond quickly and effectively to the request.
She said: “It’s crucial the public benefits from the work carried out by offenders fulfilling their community sentences, and that the public can also see the offenders doing hard work and making recompense for their crimes.
“The offenders also benefit by learning about team work and are rightly able to take pride in what they achieve.”
The member of the public added: “I was so pleased and impressed to get such an immediate and positive response from Community Payback.
“Thanks to them for organising this litter pick.”
