Greater Manchester Probation Trust

Employment for Offenders

Achieve North West

Achieve North West is a project which provides services to improve the employment prospects of offenders. It is run in five probation trusts (Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Cumbria  & Lancashire) and in 10 prisons in the North West.

It is designed to bridge the gap between offenders and existing mainstream education, skills and employment services.

Achieve North West works with 23 different subcontractors on both a regional and individual Trust basis. These include a variety of voluntary and private sector organisations, as well as social enterprises. These providers deliver a range of services, all designed to assist offenders on their journey towards employment.

It is predicted that more than 5,500 offenders will benefit from the project during a 2 year period.

The Achieve Project is managed by a regional team based in Merseyside Probation Trust and project managers within each of the 5 probation trusts.

Across the region there are a total of 42 case managers based in probation offices and prisons.

In Greater Manchester the Achieve Project covers Bolton, Bury, Wigan, Manchester City, Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside, Trafford and Salford probation districts, HMP Manchester and Forest Bank. The project is gradually being extended and will include an additional 6 prisons across the region by December 2014.
