In Prisons
Probation staff work in prisons in Greater Manchester. In partnership with prison staff, their work includes interviewing newly arrived prisoners, helping provide a welfare service, maintaining links with home and families, and reporting on suitability for parole and eventual release.
When prisoners are released from custody, they are supervised by a probation officer for a specific time after their release - which, in the case of a life licence, may be indefinitely.
